Care Kits for the Homeless

We put together 86 kits in November and those were distributed by Take It to the Streets Ministries.  Our goal is to put together another 75 bags.  Bring the items to the church by February 20th – Room 203, give them to Marie Morris, or leave items on the front pew by the piano.  Cash donations will be used for bulk purchases.

There is a poster in the foyer where you can pick items to donate and pull off a sticky note as a reminder.  The items on each sticky note will cost about $5 to purchase.  We've even included where to purchase the items so that all the kits will be the same.  Each kit is packed in a Ziploc bag and contains 14 items, including shampoo, soap, washcloth, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.

“Taking It To the Streets”

Kelly Cooper’s Sunday morning class is continuing to support “Taking It To the Streets” in their work with the homeless here in Bremerton and Seattle.  In December they assembled 85 Care Kits containing toiletry items donated by MCC. Seventy-five of these were distributed on Christmas Day in Seattle and the other ten locally in Bremerton.  They will soon begin collecting items for more Care Kits, so stay tuned!

Locally, some of the class memebers are helping with the dinners “Taking It To the Streets” serves to the homeless on Tuesday nights. Various items are distributed during these dinners.  Current needs include:

  • toilet paper – individually wrapped (Costco is a good source)
  • hand sanitizer
  • C & D size batteries
  • gloves
  • laundry soap – 4 cups in a Ziplock bag
  • “Big 5″ gift cards – for sleeping bags

If you’d like to donate, bring any of these items to the church entry or Room 203.  Thanks for your support as we show God’s love to those in need!
